About Dr. Jaishree Prasad
 

Dr. Jaishree Prasad, disciple of the legendary veena maestro Padmabhushan Dr. V. Doreswamy Iyengar, is a rare combination of a musician, research scholar, academic advisor, music composer, professor, authour, music director, cultural coordinator, AIR graded artist and a Sangeet Natak Academy scholar.

 

Born in a family of talented musicians, Jaishree naturally took to music at a very early stage. Jaishree received her Bachelor and Masters degree in music, with First Rank, from Bangalore University. Soon after that, Jaishree got an opportunity to work in a research program on musical scales sponsored by the Sangeet Natak Academy, New Delhi.  She earned her Ph. D Degree in music from Bangalore University in 1988. Dr. Jaishree worked as an Associate Professor of music at Padmavathi Women’s University, Thirupathy from 1993.  During this period, Dr. Jaishree guided many Post Graduate students for their MA degree in Indian music.

 

Dr. Jaishree has presented many research papers in music conferences and seminars throughout India. Her articles on music have been published in the leading newspapers and music journals.  Her recent publication of the book on   Veena, in the Theory, Practice and experiments in Karnatak Music" has been recommended by Universities and  research scholars  because of its interdisciplinary nature combining both Music and Physics.The book highlights an indepth study of the ancient literature on music and also about the scientific experiments conducted by Dr.Prasad on the Musical Scales of some of the well known ragas of Karnatak Music.Jaishree has composed and directed music for many documentaries, telefilms, short films and television serials in India. Her music programmes are regularly broadcasted from the Bangalore station of the All India Radio.

 

Jaishree imparts her immense knowledge to others by teaching music, conducting workshops, giving lectures, doing research and writing articles. At present, Dr.Prasad is training number of students in both Vocal and Veena in both Basic and Advanced  lessoms in Karnatak Music.  Jaishree believes that one must pursue the study of Science artistically and the study of art scientifically.
